Wireless Networking

There's more interest than ever in WiFi. That's the shorthand for a more arcane term-- 802.11b. It's wireless networking... and you can find people everywhere who are certain that wireless Internet is about to explode in popularity.

In fact, it is gaining more users than ever. Businesses and schools are "unwiring" and switching to networks transmitted on high frequencies over a couple hundred feet. Even individuals are setting up home networks.

The networks are pretty easy to set up. For a few hundred dollars, you can purchase an access point-- or transmitter-- and wireless cards-- one for each PC you own. A few more steps and you can network all those computers together. Even better, plug your cable modem or DSL modem output into the access point and you can transmit that high speed Internet service to every PC in your house.
